Why teach a bird foraging, colors or tricks? Because in the wild birds have tasks that they must perform. Foraging, building nests, flying miles a day, raising young and much more. Our birds are not a domesticated creature so hold all the same needs of that of their wild relatives. In captivity they have NO tasks which they must perform. This can lead to excess energy, screaming, biting, plucking/mutilating and/or phobic behaviors. By teaching your bird to forage, learn tricks and other brain stimulating tasks you are some what replicating the needs that they are naturally born with and/or taught by their parents. Have you ever been physically exhausted but so mentally amped up that you simply could not fall asleep? If so, you now know what a bird in captivity that is handed EVERYTHING and not given any tasks feels like. Their mind, just like ours needs to be exercised as well.
